So it’s Valentine’s Day, and you’re going to be stuck at home?
With kids it’s not always easy to get out. And Valentine’s Day is prime time, so getting a sitter might not be easy. Couples without family in town might not be able to make a fancy date night happen.
Spending time as a couple can be crazy. Life gets busy. I’m not a huge Valentine’s Day fan, but I do appreciate the excuse to carve out a little time together.
If you can’t get out this year, here are five ideas for a night at home.
Valentine’s Day Dinner for Two
Just because you can’t go out for a nice Valentine’s Day dinner doesn’t mean you can’t have a nice dinner anyway.
Grab a snack while the kids eat dinner. Then put them to bed and get started on your own meal!
Spicing things up in the kitchen together is always a great way to start the night off right.
Make a delicious dinner. Pull out the candles and put on some soft music. Then enjoy a meal without screaming children and food being thrown.
Because it’s pretty freakin’ awesome.
I honestly feel like a movie at home is way better than at the theater.
I mean, come on. You can be in your pajamas without a bra on. Need I say more?
Put a movie in, pop some popcorn, and cuddle up on the couch with a glass of wine.
This is honestly one of my favorite date nights any day. It’s relaxing, it’s NOT Frozen for the fiftieth time, and it’s easy to make happen. Perfect for a last-minute Valentine’s Day plan.
Game nights aren’t just for the kids!
Pull out your favorite games, and whip up a little friendly competition.
Board games, card games, whatever you’re in the mood for!
And if you want to make it interesting, change up the rules.
Make the friendly competition a bit friendlier. Think strip poker . . . it is Valentine’s Day after all.
Spice It Up this Valentine’s Day
I mean, it IS Valentine’s Day, so I couldn’t skip the obvious . . . right?
Sometimes special days are a great chance to change it up.
Use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to spice things up a bit.
Once the kids go down for bed take some time to get intimate together. Even if it is just a quickie.
Buy a new lingerie set that makes you feel great. Or try something new. The Dating Divas have some great ideas for sexy evenings together! Just remember, staying in the house doesn’t mean the night has to be a total waste.
Bonus Idea: Tag Team It
So this is my favorite idea. It doesn’t involve a night in . . . but it’s still good!
Find another couple with kids and swap nights.
You watch their kids one night while they go out. Then they can watch yours while you get that date night.
Or choose a different night that week and ask a close friend to watch the kids for an early (or belated) Valentine’s Day date.
I know a lot of people without family in town who are hesitant to ask friends to help out. And I wish they would be more willing to let us help.
This whole raising kids thing takes a village. And every parent needs a break.
So don’t be afraid to reach out. Some of your friends who have the help realize how lucky they are and a lot are more willing than you think to help you get that time away.
What are your plans this Valentine’s Day?
