Tacos. Could there be a more perfect food? A tortilla can hold any number of combinations. There are so many options for meat and toppings that surely everyone can find a favorite.
And for those of us taco lovers who live in the Albuquerque area? Well, lucky us because we have so many delicious taco spots to choose from.
Below are some of our team’s favorite tacos in Albuquerque. Which do you want to try first?
East Side
Barbacoa El Primo
ABQ Mom Recommendation: If you’re looking for tacos for a crowd, try Barbacoa El Primo. They serve barbacoa “Family Packs” by the pound with all of the fixings: salsas, shredded cabbage, tomato, onion, lime, and cilantro. They open at 7:30 a.m. and also have delicious barbacoa breakfast burritos.
Casa Taco
This one got the most votes from our team. It’s a toss-up between the green chile brisket and the carne asada. And if you have a big crowd at home, go for the family 12-pack.
La Reforma Brewery
ABQ Mom Recommendation: La Reforma’s tacos are authentic Central Mexican-style tacos. The carne asada and al pastor are perfect. And I love the fish tacos there.
Sadie’s of New Mexico
ABQ Mom Recommendation: Sadie’s is my go-to for American tacos. They have a great lunch special taco plate that comes with beans and papitas and, of course, a fresh sopapilla. The shredded beef tacos are delicious, and their green chile queso is my favorite.
Tako Ten
Don’t discount the new kid on the block. You have to try the fried avocado taco at Tako Ten. It’s located inside the Bridges on Tramway.
ABQ Mom Recommendation: We love going on a hike in the foothills and then grabbing Tako Ten. We take it to the patio at Boxing Bear Brewery, and it’s perfect! Definitely try the birria tacos and consomé.
Tacos El Muchacho Alegre
ABQ Mom Recommendation: Everything is clean, fresh, and made to order. And those birria tacos? Pure gooey, cheesy, savory goodness. (They also do a Taco Tuesday with Brew Labs!)
West Side
Birrieria Y Tacos Alex Tijuana Style
ABQ Mom Recommendation: The quesabirria tacos at Birrieria Y Tacos Alex Tijuana Style are my absolute favorite tacos in Albuquerque. The consomé is mouth-wateringly good, and the salsa bar at the Coors location has a fantastic variety of delicious homemade salsas and toppings.
Bob’s Burgers
ABQ Mom Recommendation: My dad has always loved Bob’s Burgers’ taco burgers. We used to have those for dinner most Tuesdays when I was in middle and high school. Side note: their green chile sauce is an amazing dipping sauce for fries!
Don Choche Tacos Y Cerveza
Friends, do not miss this North Valley gem. Our pick is the red chile brisket. But we’ve never had anything here that we don’t like.
ABQ Mom Recommendation: Every time my brother-in-law is in town, we have to take him to Don Choche for tacos. He is obsessed for good reason. Their brisket tacos are amazing. On Fridays and Saturdays, you can get two tacos and a margarita for $14, and everything I have had there is amazing!
El Paisa Taqueria
ABQ Mom Recommendation: El Paisa is the best for authentic Mexican tacos, and they have delicious homemade salsas. Use caution when biting the corner off of the bag (IYKYK) for the red salsa; it’s got some heat! They also have other great menu items: burritos, gorditas, and tortas. It’s a great little hole-in-the wall place in the South Valley, but remember to bring cash because they don’t accept cards.
El Super
Maybe you only know this as a grocery store, but surprise, there’s a restaurant inside: El Super’s Cocina. One of our team members swears by the carne asada.
Tap ‘N Taco
ABQ Mom Recommendation: Tap ‘N Taco in Rio Rancho is delicious! They have $2 tacos. You grab a tray and order cafeteria style and then swing by the salsa bar before sitting inside, at the bar area, or on their patio. We went recently, and the line was wrapped around the inside and out the door, but we got our tacos in less than 15 minutes.
Taqueria Mexico
Word has it that this restaurant offers one of the most authentic Mexican experiences in Albuquerque. They have 11 different tacos to choose from. Good luck choosing one!
Tacos aren’t just for Tuesdays! Go try something new today.
