The First-Time Mom’s Guide to Packing Your Hospital Bag

0

Becoming a mom is one of the most life-changing things you will ever go through and preparing for it can almost feel impossible when you have no idea what you’re about to experience. Trust me . . . I’ve spent 9 months prepping, prepping, prepping, and I still don’t feel completely 100% “ready.” Between all the birthing classes, breathing exercises, meditations, online education, mom advice, and SO MUCH MORE, there is a lot to take in! There’s only so much you can do to prep before you get overwhelmed. But one (easy) thing you can do is make sure your hospital bag is packed and ready for your little one’s arrival.

So I asked our local ABQ Moms what they suggested bringing to the hospital with you, and this is what they said:

  • Insurance and ID
  • Birth plan
  • Pediatrician’s contact info
  • Comfy button-up hospital gown
  • Onesies
  • Sleepers
  • Swaddles/blankets
  • Nursing tank tops
  • Nursing bras
  • Sweatpants/shorts
  • Pajamas
  • Cozy cardigan or robe
  • Fuzzy socks
  • Slippers/sandals
  • Bed pillows
  • Nursing pillow
  • Cozy blanket
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, face wash, face wipes, deodorant, dry shampoo, hair ties, lip balm, lotion, etc.)
  • Labor comb
  • Nipple cream or Silverettes
  • Postpartum care products
  • Disposable underwear
  • Upside down peri bottle
  • Maxi pads
  • Going home outfit for you and baby
  • Breast pump
  • Bottles
  • Carseat
  • Snacks
  • 10 ft. phone charging cord
  • Clothes for Dad

Extras:

  • Small fan
  • Portable speaker (and birthing playlist)
  • Bath towels
  • Laptop and charger
  • Book or tablet
  • Essential oil diffuser
  • An extra bag for hospital freebies

MOM TIP: Do NOT bring diapers and wipes to the hospital. They will give you everything that you need! You may even want to bring an extra bag for all the free stuff they provide for you that you’ll want to take home.

And just remember . . . even if something happens and not everything ends up in your bag, it’s all going to be okay. Soon your beautiful bundle of joy will be here, and nothing else will matter.
