We want to thank Lovelace for sponsoring our Guide to October in Albuquerque.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and serves as a great reminder for women over the age of 40 to get their annual mammogram. According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early and in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms. While annual mammograms are recommended for women over the age of 40, health care providers may recommend earlier screenings for patients with a personal or family history of breast, ovarian, tubal or peritoneal cancer, as these women are at a higher risk of breast cancer.
The breast health specialists at Lovelace Health System provide comprehensive breast care for patients of all ages and genders, including genetic risk assessments to help determine your overall risk of developing breast cancer, in addition to education and strategies to help mitigate risk. Lovelace’s two conveniently-located Breast Health Centers at Lovelace Women’s Hospital and Lovelace Westside Hospital offer a variety of amenities and services, including:
