Hey mamas, winter break is coming up so fast! It’s so hard to believe that the holidays are already here. School is going to be out for a couple of weeks, and this can cause a lot of stress for parents. We are here to help minimize the stress, help keep your kids busy, and help you maintain your sanity.
Here are a few ideas to keep kiddos busy during this time.

One Albuquerque Winter Break Program
These low-cost programs run during APS winter break. Last year, they ran from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every weekday with lunch and snack provided. Registration was only $10 and was first come, first served for each community center.
This year’s registration will open on December 9, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. Children must be 6 years old and enrolled in Kindergarten. Click here to register.
Science Is Everywhere Winter Break Day Camp
Are your kids curious about the world around them? Do they have a million questions about how things work? Science Is Everywhere Camps at the Nuclear Museum are here to satisfy their curiosity and spark their imaginations!
Students K-6 can register to experience the museum’s exciting science and fun STEAM activities. The museum’s education team has divided camp topics into single-day camps with multi-age collaborative camper experiences from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with FREE before and aftercare starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m.
Winter Swim Camp
Fitter & Faster is bringing their 2-day swim camps to a pool near you. What kid doesn’t want to be in the pool year round?
YMCA Winter Break Day Camp
The YMCA of Central New Mexico’s school-age extended day learning fills your child’s out-of-school time with creative and constructive opportunities. Through this program, school-age children participate in individual and group activities that extend the learning experience.
In addition to supplementing what children learn in school, they will also:
- Participate in interactive learning models that engage critical thinking skills
- Get assistance with their homework from trained Y staff
- Form long-lasting friendships that enhance their development, growth, and self-confidence
Explora Winter Camps
Explora offers a variety of Winter Break Camps that provide STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) engagement and enrichment while school is out. Explora’s camps provide unique investigations for varied grade levels, keeping imagination, curiosity, and learning active with STEAM!
Wise Fool Winter Camp
Wise Fool’s day camps are for youth who want to learn to fly on the trapeze, walk tall on stilts, find their inner clown, and tumble their way into fun! Youth learn amazing circus skills including stiltwalking, trapeze, juggling, aerial fabric, clowning, acrobatics, and puppetry. Winter Break camp is suitable for students 7-12 of all levels, no experience necessary. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and before and after care options are available. Snacks are provided, but students are expected to bring a bag lunch.
KinderCare Champ Camp Winter Program
JCC Albuquerque Winter Camp
Head to the JCC for a fun-filled winter break camp designed for children ages 5-12. The camp includes various activities including arts and crafts, PE, and interactive games. They have something fun for everyone!
Blast! Camp: When School’s Out
Hosted at Sports & Wellness, these camps are available for members and non-members alike. They include team sports, games, arts and crafts, and swimming. Camps are for kids ages 5-12 and have before and after care options available.
Learners Chess Winter Camp
This unique model allows all levels of chess Learners to learn and work through the curriculum at their own pace. The coaches are fun and energetic. As students work through the curriculum, they earn prize points that they can use to trade in for prizes at the end of the week.
Southwest Childcare School Break Program
Southwest Child Care Early Learning Centers provide full-time care for elementary-aged children during the summer break months—as well as Winter and Spring Breaks. They spend many months creating a developmentally appropriate and fun program that will keep children exploring, stimulated, and busy.
We Rock the Spectrum
Camps are for kids ages 5-7 and 8-12 and perfect for the kids who need to get some wiggles out while staying warm.
