Rolling Through ABQ: Our Family’s Favorite Skate Parks

Skate parks have become one of our family’s favorite ways to get outside and spend time together. My boys love the challenge of learning new tricks and building confidence. And I love watching them develop coordination, perseverance, and new skills with every visit. Best of all, it’s completely free fun! We’re lucky to have so many great skate parks in Albuquerque and the surrounding areas, and I’m excited to share our family’s favorites along with the special features that make each one worth a visit.

Check out our favorite parks with shade here.

Los Altos Skate Park

10140 Lomas Blvd NE, 87112

This skate park is huge, with features for every skill level, though advanced skaters will especially love the variety of obstacles. It has recently been cleaned up and is now monitored, making it feel much safer and more inviting for families. As a parent, I especially appreciate the bleachers, which make it easy to keep an eye on everyone. Our favorite section is the largest drop-in area, where skaters can choose from gentle ramps, half pipes, and a small center bump that gives beginners a chance to practice rolling up and over obstacles with confidence.

Bonus: There’s also a brand new pump track right in the parking lot, making it easy to keep the fun going even longer!

North Domingo Baca Skate Park

8301 Wyoming Blvd NE, 87113

This is another spacious skate park with plenty of room for skaters of all ages and abilities. Our favorite feature is the two-level layout: an upper skating area and a lower section connected by ramps of varying heights, making it easy for kids to build confidence and progress at their own pace. The lower area also includes a few standalone half pipes and several ramps of different sizes, giving skaters lots of opportunities to practice and try new skills.

Bonus: In the summer, families can cool off at the nearby splash pad, and there’s a playground just behind the skate park for even more fun.

Northwest Modular Skate Park

10201 Coors Bypass NW, 87120

This skate park may be smaller than some of the others around town, but we like to call it small but mighty! The layout is thoughtfully designed, with plenty of features to keep skaters of all skill levels entertained and challenged. One of my favorite things as a parent is that the bleachers sit directly in front of the entire skate area, making it easy to watch all the action. Another big bonus? The skate park is completely fenced in, giving it an extra family-friendly feel.

Paradise Hills Skate Park

5801 Paradise Blvd NW, 87114

Paradise Hills Skate Park is a fantastic fenced-in spot filled with half pipes and drop-ins for skaters to explore. The thoughtful layout makes it easy for kids to move from one feature to the next, building confidence and trying new challenges along the way. The enclosed design also gives parents peace of mind while the kids skate.

Bonus: There’s a large open field for running and playing, plus a spacious, shady playground nearby for even more family fun.

Calvary Skate Park

4001 Osuna Rd NE, 87109

Calvary Skate Park is truly a hidden gem. Although it’s one of the smaller parks in town, it’s a favorite with my boys. The park is made up primarily of bowls, but the gentle entry points make it approachable for younger and less experienced skaters. It’s consistently clean, well-maintained, and feels very safe, which makes it an easy choice for a family outing.

Bonus: Parents can enjoy a drink or snack from the church’s on-site café while keeping an eye on the action.

Corrales Skate Park

500 Jones Rd, 87048

Corrales Skate Park is another small but worthwhile stop on our list. It features a handful of fun obstacles and an excellent mini half pipe section that my boys always gravitate toward. The all-concrete design provides a smooth ride, and the park has a safe, welcoming feel that makes it perfect for a relaxed family skate session.

Bonus: This park is part of a larger recreation area, so the fun doesn’t stop at skating. Families can enjoy a large soccer field, tennis courts, basketball courts, and during the summer months, one of the most fun city pools around!

While skate parks can feel a little intimidating at first, our family has discovered that the skate community is incredibly welcoming and always ready to lend a hand or cheer on young skaters. That encouragement has given my boys the extra confidence they sometimes need to try something new. Albuquerque is full of fantastic places to ride, and I wholeheartedly encourage you to get out there and experience them with your kids; you may just find a new family favorite!
