Moms Deserve Love, Not Judgment

Moms Are Like CEOs

Moms deserve love. They don’t deserve to be judged because raising children is not easy. As a mother, we are like CEOs of our own little family. We have to be adaptable to the changing ages, stages, preferences, and emotions of our children. Moms are constantly having to delegate tasks and make decisions all day long. We must ensure everyone is cared for, fed, clothed, and taken to their respective activities. Plus, we must take care of ourselves too. Not to mention, all the non-parent responsibilities we have. These usually include keeping the house clean, cooking, grocery shopping, paying bills, and oftentimes working outside the home.

Wow! Can we get a standing ovation for the moms and all the things we do on a daily basis? Often we do not even stop to realize everything we multi-tasked or accomplished in the day. The last thing we need as a mother is to feel judgment for our parenting choices from other parents, friends, family members, or people we don’t even know.

Did you catch the ABQ Momcast episode “Why does it feel so good to hate?” It’s a beautiful and eye-opening chat about respecting other people’s differences. The hosts talk about choosing to be kind to people even when their personal or even political beliefs differ from our own. This podcast episode provides an amazing perspective and conversation that inspired me to reflect on how moms deserve love–not judgment.

Being Judged as a Mother

As mothers, we are dealing with choices daily. Choices that can sometimes change as our children grow or as we change as mothers. The list of choices we make from day one as a mother is endless. But to name a few, choosing to breastfeed or not, choosing to share our kids on social media or not, to homeschooling or choosing a traditional schooling route. Then as our kids get older, we are choosing baby-led weaning or purees, choosing screen time, some screen time, or no screen time at all. And when our kids reach their teenage years, we have even more serious decisions we have to face.

How we choose to do things as mothers is very personal and unique. Every family has personal and challenging choices to make all the time. Respecting each other’s choices as mothers is so much more kind and helpful than judging each other. Especially when we know firsthand how hard it is to make those choices in the first place. While it is easy to judge, it can be even easier to uplift mothers and respect their choices. Moms deserve love, respect, and compassion.

Choosing not to judge other mom’s choices only brings more kindness and love into the world. We do not have to agree with how other moms choose to parent or what they choose to do or not do. But we can choose to respect how things are done differently and support moms, dads, and other caregivers through all stages of parenthood.

Showing respect and compassion to other moms and their families will only make the world a better place for our children to live in.
