The countdown to summer break is on! We know finding camps to keep the kids busy and cared for is on the top of many families’ to-do list. We hope this Guide to Summer Camps helps you plan for a fun and memorable summer!

We are excited to present our readers with the ABQ Mom Guide to Summer Camps. This guide is a one-stop shop for parents as you decide where to send your children to summer camp.


Summer Prep

What do Minecraft, Aikido, and Hogwarts School have in common? They are all classes at SummerPrep 2024! SummerPrep, Sandia Prep’s summer program, runs from June 3 – July 12 for students from any school in grades Pre-K through high school. They offer enriching and creative classes and opportunities to learn new skills or build on existing talents. More than 100 tech, art, athletic, and academic classes are offered every year for students from any school in Pre-K through high school.

New classes this year include My First Lemonade Stand, Real-World Graphic Design, Pokémon, Aikido Bootcamp, Jr. CEOs, Young Trailblazers: Five-Day Outdoor Adventure, and many more! Fan favorites like their famous Main Stage Theater productions (Wizard of Oz and Disney’s Frozen JR.), Hogwarts School, Kids Cook!, and Minecraft are returning!

At SummerPrep, they foster discovery and exploration and encourage students to enjoy themselves in a safe, supportive environment.

Manzano Day School Summer Discovery

Manzano Day School has an adventure in store for you!

Their new Summer Discovery is proud to offer so many exciting sessions ranging from yoga to math, dance to reading, and the fundamentals of volleyball, and that is just a few! These specialty classes are designed to academically prepare students for the upcoming school year and to encourage movement and creativity for all ages!

Summer Discovery will be made up of three blocks: June 3-14, June 17-28, and July 1-12. The program costs $400/a block for half a day, $700/a block for a full day, and $1,999/all three blocks for a full day! Extended care will be available from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for an additional fee.

HOPE Christian School


Join HOPE Christian for an unforgettable summer of fun and memory-making with fellow campers at their Elementary’s beautiful state-of-the-art campus along Paseo del Norte in NE Albuquerque. Children need not attend HOPE Christian School to enroll in their summer camps.

Camp Engage is an all-day experience for students entering 1st-5th grade. Campers will be guided through a rotating schedule full of activities, games, and outdoor fun!! There are themes for each week of camp – like ​Tropics, Olympics, Master Chef, Wild West, S.T.E.M., and two Water weeks!  Sign your child up for one or all eight. 

HOPE Engage Athletic Camps range from 2-5 days in length and give students the opportunity to learn about specific sports from our high school coaches and players through games, competitions, and workshops.  Soccer, basketball, volleyball, football, cheer/drill, and more.  

All Star Bible Sports Camp in August is a sort of VBS / Athletic Camp combo, where students entering 1st through 5th grade experience all the sports – soccer, basketball, volleyball, golf, and flag football (or a dance/drill option for the girls). Each day  will include Bible study, singing and prayer time to strengthen them spiritually as we strengthen them physically.

Opera Unlimited

Our 21st year providing children with a quality summer of enrichment and achievement. The five-week camp culminates in a fully-stage production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s THE MIKADO. No experience necessary. Kids learn about music, acting and theater arts from professionals. Camp runs weekday afternoons from June 5-July 6 with public performances on July 7 and 8. We will hear the kids sing in mid-May to know where to place them. The cost of the camp is $100 (for the ENTIRE camp). Scholarships are available in case of need. Panther Camp at Menaul School

At Panther Camp, they believe in the value of play. Whether their campers are involved in an organized game, participating in Pig Yoga, creating their own skits and plays, or listening to a story, the most important elements of Panther Camp are the following:

  • Communication and cooperation skills.
  • Exploration and curiosity.

Kids need ample time that is under-scheduled and that provides choices in order to develop healthy habits. As an alternative to screen or couch time, Panther Camp provides a balance of activity that supports social, emotional, and physical health. Students engage in a wide variety of activities without having to specialize in one skill or subject area or rotate from class session to class session.

Southwest School of Filmmaking

Southwest School of Filmmaking Camp provides a supportive and encouraging environment for kids to learn, grow, and have fun all while learning the art and experiencing the magic of movie-making. Students receive guidance from professional filmmakers while creating an original short film. At the end of these two weeks, students come together, alongside their family and friends, and view their completed films in a student showcaseIn addition to honing their technical skills, kids will also get the chance to explore their creativity and express themselves through film.

They will learn how to develop characters, create scenes, and bring their stories to life. This camp is the perfect opportunity for kids to showcase their unique perspectives and share their stories with the world.

Stone Age Climbing Gym

Looking for a physically and mentally challenging activity for your kid during school breaks? Then have them try the experience of rock climbing. Hummingbird Music Camp, nestled by the river in the Jemez Mountains, is a family owned business celebrating 66 years of nurturing a love for fine arts in the youth of NM.
