The Little Gym
The Little Gym offers a free trial class for new families who are interested in trying their programs. Booking an introductory class can be done online or in person to tailor to your schedule and needs. The best part? There are multiple locations in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho!
I loved that my son and I were able to meet the instructors beforehand and learn about the age groups and how each group specifically supports your child’s developmental needs. We were even given time to explore the gym for some free play. I also appreciated that the range of ages for The Little Gym runs from 4 months old up to 12 years old. It’s a fun way to keep your child moving, get some social and play time, and engage your child through their body and mind. Be sure to check out their website for more information.

Sandia Acrobatics Gymnastics Academy (SAGA)
SAGA Gym offers introductory classes for new families so that their children can try their tumbling and gymnastics classes. You can book your class online via their website once you’ve created a profile. Parents report that their interactive classes are fun for kids. Another awesome perk is that SAGA holds open gym sessions for children to practice their new skills in an open play format. ABQ Mom Tips and Tricks for Finding Free Classes
Tip 1: Your best bet for seeking out intro classes for your children is to call different studios and programs for more information. Visiting their websites along with some of their social media platforms can aid in this process as well, as promotions sometimes land on their social media handles first. For example, for martial arts or dance studios, call ahead of time to secure a reservation and have all of your questions answered.
Tip 2: Local libraries will usually have calendars that highlight community events that hold free classes for kids. This includes but is not limited to art classes, music, and even STEM classes. This will also be the case for non-profits and schools as well—workshops and youth classes are provided throughout the year, but they can be so easily missed at times!
Tip 3: Subscribe to our ABQ Mom newsletter. We have our event calendar that highlights many community events, including events containing classes or workshops for your children!
Albuquerque continues to hold opportunities for children to explore new interests without the heavy pressure of a long-term commitment. Free trial classes are a refreshing way to encourage your child to try something new, whether they want to make a homemade dish, kick a soccer ball, or maybe just dance. Whichever choice you and your child say yes to, just know that you are a great parent for taking advantage of the local opportunities here and truly seeing what ignites your child’s passion.
