If you have been in Albuquerque for any amount of time and you have kids, you have definitely been to Explora. If you grew up here, you have fond memories of going as a kid, and there is nostalgia in taking your own kids. But Explora is not just for small children. In fact, Explora isn’t just for kids at all. Explora is for big kids, little kids, and those of us who are kids at heart. They have exhibits, camps, and events for everyone!
What to do with little kids at Explora:
- Bubbles! A favorite in my family! You can see how big you can get bubbles. How long will they last? Can you stack them? What size bubble floats highest? A permanent fixture at Explora, and fun for all ages!
Do you have older kids? Explora has you covered! - The Science of Kindness Exhibit, put on in partnership with the Jennifer Riordan Foundation, provides a distinctive interactive opportunity for New Mexico families and visitors to explore neurochemistry, psychology, and other science related to the giving and receiving of kindness.
- Explora hosts teen nights, as well as Teen Science Cafe, for older kids who are interested and excited about science. Teen Science Cafe is a free out-of-school time program where teens and STEM experts collaborate on presentations and hands-on activities that explore science topics in-depth.
- X Studio is a free teen center where teens experiment, create, hang out, and learn.
- Explora’s “Meet a Scientist” series is a bi-monthly, all ages event which connects STEAM professionals with families. With hands-on activities, professionals demonstrate amazing local STEAM jobs to help kids dream big about their future careers. Meet a Scientist events take place every first Saturday of the even months. Come check it out in February, 2025!
- X Studio is open late and has free drop in programs like Crafternoons, Discovering Robotics, Screenprinting, and Biotech topics such as Heart Dissection, to name a few. Check out the X Studio Calendar for all the details, times and dates.
