Free Summer Lunches in the Albuquerque Area

Summer Lunches

Now that school is out and kids are no longer getting free school lunches, local organizations are providing free summer meals throughout Albuquerque and beyond to make sure no kids go hungry this season.

Summer should be a fun, wonderful season for enjoying pools, parks and time together, not a time to worry about how to afford feeding children while schools are closed.

Local school districts and Bernalillo County are offering free summer lunches—and sometimes breakfasts—at parks, community centers, and pools around the city this summer.

This list will be updated as summer meal sites are announced.

Manzano Day School 2

Founded in 1938, Manzano Day School is an independent, non-profit elementary school serving children in pre-k through fifth grade. The program at Manzano Day School sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and develops the whole child while cultivating lifelong learners, independent thinkers, and engaged community members.

Students build a strong academic foundation through core studies in reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science, complemented by co-curricular programs in library, music, physical education, Spanish, technology, and visual arts.

With an 18:1 student-to-teacher ratio, students benefit from personalized attention and strong teacher relationships. All students also participate in our Environmental Education program at Fenton Ranch in the Jemez Mountains, one of the few programs of its kind in the country, where outdoor learning strengthens independence, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.

Manzano Day School is committed to accessibility and inclusivity. Nearly one in four students receives financial aid, awarded based on demonstrated need and available funds, with awards covering up to 50% of tuition. Learn more about admission here.

Guided by the philosophy of Joy in Learning®, Manzano Day School balances tradition and innovation while preparing students for continued academic success and meaningful participation in their communities and an ever-changing world.

That joy carries over into the summer during Manzano Day School’s Summer Discovery, a hands-on, interactive program that immerses students in creative, skill-building experiences. Students can enjoy Manzano Day School’s sprawling six-acre campus as well as classes taught by MDS teachers.

Summer Discovery is open to the public for rising pre-k and fifth graders. It runs from June 8 to July 17, 2026. Space is limited. Contact [email protected] or the website for more information.

Some parks around Albuquerque will also offer Story Time in the Park.

Story Time in the Park is an Albuquerque Public Schools initiative that provides families and children with read-aloud sessions, free books, and resources for children and their families.

Between June 8 and July 17, APS student readers will read at the parks Monday to Thursday. (Free lunches are provided at locations Monday through Friday.)

There will be no program on June 19 or the week of June 29-July 3.

Can my child get free lunches?

Free summer lunches are available to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants in the meal program must be under 18 years of age.

Here are all the locations across the city offering free lunches (some even have free breakfast) this summer!

*Locations marked with an asterisk also have Story Time in the Park Monday-Thursday between June 8 and July 17. There will be no Story Time in the Park on June 19 and the week of June 29-July 3.

No lunches will be served on June 19 and July 3.

**Check back regularly as summer lunch program sites are announced and added!**

Sites with * have summer reading Storytime in the Park. Sites with ^ also serve breakfast.
