Mornings That Move Mountains: How I Start My Day with Purpose

The Power of a Peaceful Start – Why My Morning Routine Feels Like a Gift

4:30 a.m.

Rest is so important, and waking up from a good night’s sleep is such a gift. An even bigger gift is rewarding yourself with calm and peacefulness before the world wakes up. My morning routine gives me the jumpstart that I need to start my day with purpose and clarity. Having a mindful morning routine can really kick off a successful and purposeful day.

I aim to wake up at 4:30 a.m. because the rest of the family has to be up starting at 6:00 a.m. That hour and a half is the quiet time that helps me get organized and prepare for the day ahead. I love to start with an affirmation and mindfulness. Today’s affirmation is:

“I am grounded, capable, and confident. I handle everything that comes my way with grace and clarity. Today I lead with purpose and power.”

Saying these words out loud and writing them down is an important step for me. I write my to-do list next, and my affirmation goes at the top.

Mastering My Day Starts with a Simple List – Write It Down

My to-do list is a brain dump and allows me to get the clutter from my brain to the page. Even though I may not get everything done, I do accomplish a lot more if I have a road map for my day since things can be a bit chaotic as a business owner and realtor, mom, and wife.

After completing my to-do list, I like to kick off my workday by writing any listing descriptions—my brain is fresh and free from the clutter of the day’s stress. I’m most creative in the morning, so I love to write during this time. I also review my schedule for the day and make adjustments as needed to accommodate new appointments or shift things around if my husband’s and my schedules don’t align for pickups, practices, or games. One total game-changer has been collaborating with other parents to take turns and carpool—it’s the village I didn’t know I needed.

Prioritizing Nutrition for a Strong Start – Quick Morning Meals That Power Focus and Growth

A hearty, healthy breakfast fuels my children, keeping them focused on school or sports—not distracted by a grumbling tummy. Over the past several years, I’ve incorporated intermittent fasting into my routine, so I start my day with a cup of black coffee and a large glass of water with Himalayan salt. But my boys are growing and very active, so I make it a priority to set them up for success by giving them the fuel they need to grow big and strong. Preparing breakfast takes about 20 minutes or less, but it goes a long way toward a successful day.

Something I have slacked a bit on is preparing school lunch. This used to be something I never missed, but I realize that I need to be much more intentional. I know school lunches leave a lot to be desired nutritionally. My kids love it when they have lunch that they bring from home. I’m using this as a reminder to make a concerted effort to make lunch every day. As moms, we have to give ourselves grace when we don’t hit the mark every single day, but being intentional is helpful to reset and reevaluate our priorities.

6:00 a.m.

Now it’s time to wake up my oldest. I’m so blessed to have my boys, and while mornings can be tough, starting the day early really helps. Thankfully, he’s at an age where he gets completely ready on his own—hops in the shower, gets dressed, and packs up all of his school and sports bags. He usually heads out the door with the breakfast I’ve prepared, eating it on the way to school.

6:30 a.m.

I wake up my youngest and my husband. I’m so lucky because my husband handles the nighttime routine, allowing me to get to bed early. He also drives the boys to the bus and school. Once everyone is up, the house can get a bit chaotic, but it still flows. Most days, my youngest has a little struggle—whether it’s not wanting to jump in the shower, not finding his socks, or losing his spelling list. He’s still little, though, and I remind myself that we probably went through the same things with my oldest at this age.

7:15 a.m.

My day has officially started, and I can now dive into my workday with a sense of accomplishment. I take a nice, long bath and get ready, making sure to put on makeup and style my hair. This is a non-negotiable part of my routine because I do my best work when I feel like I look my best, even if that sounds a bit cliché. I sometimes get my workout done in the morning, but more often, I save it for a free moment during the day or in the evening.

I truly believe that you should start as you aim to finish.

By starting your day with purpose and intention, you have already completed the most important task for your day and that will set you up for success. Start your day how you plan to go about your day–with a positive outlook, accomplishing so much before the world wakes up. Sending you love and light on your journey.
