Hi mamas! I am thrilled to be coming on board as the new Events Coordinator at the Albuquerque Moms Blog. I hope this post helps you all get to know me a little bit better. And please come say hi when I see you at our next event!

Albuquerque

Albuquerque has been my home for almost one year to-the-day. My husband and I moved here from Lancaster, Pennsylvania in April 2018 with our son, and we settled in Rio Rancho. If you ever need advice about flying across the country with a 1-year old and two cats in tow, I’m your gal.

What brought us out here is very similar to many other mamas I have met in the past 12 months: a job opportunity we couldn’t pass up. After flying out to visit once in January and once in February to check out neighborhoods, we bought a house and moved in on April 2. Last year was definitely a whirlwind! I quit my part-time job at a breast cancer non-profit organization, sold our house in Lancaster, lived with my in-laws for 2 weeks, moved into our new home in New Mexico, and settled into our new lives.

Albuquerque is definitely different than the northeast and yes I am still getting used to the taste of chile on everything, but it is definitely our home. When we traveled back to PA for 2 weeks over the holidays, I truly missed the mountains, the abundant sunshine, slower way of life out here, and of course, the new friends I have made in this past year.

Mom

Being a mom is something I knew I always wanted to be. I had such a great childhood growing up in Akron, Ohio, and I yearned for the day I would become a mom to my own little bundle of joy. Plus I honestly think that pregnant women are THE most beautiful creatures on earth! I enjoyed being pregnant; it was an “easy” pregnancy as pregnancies go. I never minded talking to complete strangers about the growing fetus inside of me.

My husband and I welcomed our son, Derek, in February 2017 and he is currently an active little 2-year-old boy! Well, not so little anymore I guess! Motherhood has been such a wonderful blessing for me, although just like everyone else I have had my share of struggles. From being that infant who spit up after EVERY single feeding, to being the toddler who got into the can of paint in our brand new house, to being the little boy who left a bite mark on his friend at daycare, Derek has definitely given me a run for my money. But that trade-off is when he looks up into my eyes and says, “Thank you Mommy” after I hand him a snack, or when he gives me those precious cuddles after nap time, or when he plops down in my lap to “Read this one, Mommy.” And I know he really is the sweetest kid.

Blog

My very first friend that I made in Albuquerque (okay, pretty much my only friend at the time!) introduced me to the Albuquerque Moms Blog when we went to one of their events back in the fall. It was such a fun moms night out and I got to have my nails done, got my eyebrows done (for the first time ever), and I even won a door-prize at the event!

As a new transplant to the Albuquerque area, I immediately clung to the Albuquerque Moms Blog website and started reading all the “guides” I could get my hands on! I love that this site contains practical information on schooling options, pediatricians, and women’s health, as well as the VERY essential info on coffee shops, photographers, and date nights! Plus all of the contributors’ insights and posts are so well written, informative and just plain funny! Whatever you are going through, it is guarantee that there is an article with advice from a mom who has been there on this site. I am excited to start blogging on the site for myself and to be a part of this incredible team of talented mamas!
