Honeybees: Simple Kids Snack Recipe

Most days, it’s a miracle when I offer my kids a snack that they are actually excited about.  In fact, most days when I give them their snack options I put up my invisible shield in preparation for the slew of whining and complaining that is sure to follow.

“NO!  I don’t want that!”

“I don’t like those!”

“I’m never eating that!”

Anyone else out there struggle with this day after day?

Food can be a HUGE battle in our home but I have found two things that usually work to curb the food-i-tude.  First, limit snacks and second, get a teeny-tiny bit creative.

Honestly, I’m better at limiting snacks than I am at the whole creative, pinteresty snack making, but here is a cute, fun, and simple recipe that I remember loving as a child.

This recipe is from a Better Homes and Gardens cookbook (circa 1980’s) that my mom recently passed down to me.

Honeybees Snack:Honeybees: Simple Kids Snack Recipe

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 tablespoon honey

1/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder

2 tablespoons sesame seed

2 tablespoons toasted wheat germ

Unsweetened cocoa powder

Sliced almonds

Toothpick

Mix the first five ingredients together in a mixing bowl.

Roll one teaspoon at a time of the mixture into bee shapes and place on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Dip toothpick in cocoa powder and make two to three lines on each bee.

Put a sliced almond on each side of the bee to create wings and refrigerate for thirty minutes.

These snacks are really simple to make, taste great, and honestly, you don’t have to make them into bees!  Roll out the mixture, refrigerate, and slice into squares or cut out the cocoa powder and almonds and simply roll them into balls.

My kids gobbled these up so fast that I almost didn’t get a picture!   And, miraculously, there was no whining, which is always a mommy win.

I’d love to know your favorite go-to snacks. Comment below!
