Holiday Gift Assistance Resources :: Find Free & Low-Cost Gifts

You may have heard the saying “two things can be true at once.” Never is this statement more true than as a mom during the holiday season. We can cherish seeing the holidays through our children’s eyes while simultaneously stressing as we carry the mental load of pulling together all of the holiday “magic” for the entire family.

APS Schools often collect donations and support families in need within their own communities. If you are in need, reaching out to your child’s school counselor is a great place to start! My son’s middle school is gathering donations for a “Holiday in a Box” for some anonymous families who need some extra support this year.

Gift Assistance

Being the “magic maker” can feel like an impossible task when it feels like there’s just not enough money to make the season special for your kids. The joy of the holiday season goes far beyond presents and toys, but thanks to several organizations in Albuquerque, every child has the chance to experience the magic of receiving a gift.

Local Gift Assistance Programs

The Salvation Army of Albuquerque operates a Christmas Angel program that assists families with a holiday meal and gifts for children 12 and under. To learn more, visit their website or call (505) 881-4292.

Catholic Charities of Central New Mexico hosts an annual Giving Tree program. Their mission is “to provide a dignified and uplifting holiday experience for families, children, and seniors who are experiencing homelessness, displacement, and/or isolation across our community.” They serve over 400 families in the Albuquerque area. For more information, check out their website, social media, or call (505) 724-4670.

PB&J Family Services hosts a Holiday Wish program each year for families enrolled in their programming who meet income qualifications. The program pairs sponsors with families in need. Each sponsor receives a family wish list with all the information needed to shop for their Holiday Wish family. To learn more, check out this flyer

The United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program provides unwrapped toys for families in need. Their goal is to provide joy and hope to all children, regardless of economic background. The 2025 online application for New Mexico residents can be found here. The program also offers several in-person registration events across the city.

APS Title 1 Homeless Project serves over 4,000 students each year to help their families find shelter and stability. They organize an adopt-a-family program to provide gifts for approximately 70 families a year.
