SUMMARY:Summer FixIt Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a broken item in need of repair? Join us at the Summer Fixit Clinic! \nDon’t toss it… Fix It! \nKeep Albuquerque Beautiful and Fuse Makerspace are teaming up once again for our Summer FixIt Clinic on Saturday\, August 8. \nBring your broken household items and work alongside experienced volunteer coaches to learn how they can be repaired instead of thrown away. Whether it’s a bike\, small appliance\, simple electronic device\, sewing project\, or another well-loved item\, our goal is to help give it a second life. Software support is not available at the event however some hardware fixes may be possible on a case-by-case basis. \nThis free\, all-ages event is more than a repair day—it’s a chance to build new skills\, reduce waste\, and keep usable items out of the landfill. \nPlease note: Not every item can be repaired on site\, and some may result in a diagnosis only. To help our coaches\, attendees are encouraged to bring all related parts and accessories (tools\, chargers\, screws\, washers\, manuals\, etc.) to make the repair process smoother. \nAttendees are required to register at least one week before the event. Come learn something new—and help keep Albuquerque beautiful.

SUMMARY:Science on Tap: The Fastest Woman in the World - Jackie Cochran
DESCRIPTION:From an impoverished childhood in a Florida mill town to becoming one of the most celebrated aviators in history\, Jackie Cochran lived a life that defied expectations and shattered barriers. A record-setting pilot\, Cochran held more speed\, distance\, and altitude records than any other aviator of her era – male or female. In 1953\, she became the first woman to break the sound barrier\, and later became the first woman to exceed twice the speed of sound. \nDuring World War II\, she successfully championed the creation of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP)\, leading more than 1\,000 women who tested aircraft\, ferried planes\, and performed vital aviation duties that freed male pilots for combat. \nYet aviation was only part of her remarkable story. Jackie built a successful nationwide cosmetics company\, traveled the world\, entertained heads of state and military leaders\, and became one of the most influential women of the twentieth century. \nAdmired by some\, disliked by others\, Jackie Cochran was impossible to ignore. Brilliant\, ambitious\, determined\, and often controversial\, she possessed an extraordinary ability to overcome obstacles and achieve what many thought impossible. \nThe Fastest Woman in the World: Jackie Cochran is the fascinating story of a woman who refused to accept limits and changed aviation history forever. \nGrab a drink\, settle in\, and discover the incredible story of the woman who redefined what was possible in the skies. ✈️ \nEVENT DETAILS\n\nFriday\, August 14\, 2026 | Doors Open at 5:30 pm | Presentation at 6:00 pm\nLocation: National Museum of Nuclear Science & History\nAdmission: $12 per person\nRequirement: Must be 21+ to attend.
